Baila Chile
Baila Chile is a Canberra-based Chilean folkloric dance group. The group was established in 2005 by a group of folk music enthusiasts who set out to share with the wider community the richness of Chilean culture through music and dance. The group has performed in and around Canberra at events including Canberra’s Floriade, The National Multicultural Festival, the Cowra Festival of International Understanding, local school fêtes and a range of Spanish-speaking community based events. Baila Chile prides itself in offering passionate and engaging representations of Chile’s regional diversity. Baila Chile, through the support offered by the ACT Government’s Communities working with artists fund grant, was able to work with well-known Chilean folklorist, Andres Alarcon earlier in 2011. Some of the material covered the grant workshops will be presented by the group at this upcoming festival. This year’s Chilean-Latin American September Festival in Victoria is the first for Baila Chile. The members of the group are looking forward to representing Canberra in this event, sharing their passion for Chilean folk dances and enjoying the festivities with other folk enthusiasts.
